The most important thing to obtain after an automobile accident is the contact information and insurance information from the other driver. If you allow that driver to leave the scene without obtaining their contact information, it can be very difficult to locate them later on. At an absolute minimum, you’re going to want to get their license plate. If they’re being extremely uncooperative, if they are being somewhat cooperative, you’re going to want to get their name, try and snap a picture of their driver’s license, obtain their insurance information if possible.

Getting that insurance information is really key, because even if you have the name of the individual, it can still be difficult to find their insurance information, surprisingly. You’re going to want to try and obtain that as well. As well as taking photographs of all the vehicles involved in the accident, as well as the general accident scene.
