What is no-fault insurance?
No-fault insurance is a portion of your automobile policy of insurance that is also synonymous with personal injury protection benefits. For short, we call those PIP benefits. PIP benefits are utilized for the first $10,000 of medical bills for the injured party regardless of who is at fault. That’s why it’s called no-fault insurance. This specific $10,000 of benefits, no-fault, also known as PIP, is primary, which means that this has to be paid out before any health insurance kicks into gear.
What’s important to know about this no-fault insurance is that currently, it’s up for review with the legislature, and the Florida legislature up in Tallahassee is considering whether to do away with no-fault insurance or not, so we have to stay tuned and up to date as to that particular change in law.
